Ok, I thought I should say this. If someone is giving you a hard time because your character is considered a "mary sue" by their standards, then simply ignore them. It may, or may not be true, but it is never pleasant to hear. Another thing to keep in mind, CHARACTERS EVOLVE. Just as personalities and shifts in interest change in humans, so do they in characters. So do whatever you want with your character! HAVE FUN. Its the most important thing you can do.

Yes, the fun is the most important part, naturally. What's the value in this sort of stuff if you're not having fun eh? ;)

But a little criticism, whether you find it constructive or cruel, can go a long way in terms of character development. I know for certain that I had an Irken marysue who evolved into a very well rounded and fleshed out character, despite how I might have felt at the time I was told.
We may not always be able to see it, but there are times when we love our characters so much we forget that they can and will have flaws that tie in with being a marysue. 
As unpleasant as it might be, it's always good in the long run to be told if your character is treading into that territory so you can know how to improve them, and be better off for it.
